Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) for Rail
The role of IV&V is to ensure that your product or transportation implementation is successful from inception through completion by providing an independent and objective evaluation. This evaluation, whether a single occurrence, periodically, or as an integral part of your team, will provide indications of potential problems with quality of your product or deliverables as well as potential schedule or cost impact. WRSystems will then provide root cause analysis to address specific problems. WRSystems will work with you to develop mitigation strategies and recommend preventative actions that are cost effective and realistic for your efforts, and reduce the impact of these issues on you or your customer.
WRSystems' unique approach to IV&V employs the following key factors:
- "Hands-on" practical experience of team members with your process and the technology being implemented;
- Reach-back capability to senior subject matter experts when needed for additional depth or oversight of our recommendations.
- Access to other resources, when needed, to ensure that we can be flexible and responsive to your changing needs and priorities; and the
- Personal commitment of each team member to take ownership for ensuring your success.
This "Hands-on" approach brings experienced test and IV&V experience to execute the task, and also ensures that at least one person on each team has actually worked within your environment and can reach-back to a subject matter expert. This is key to our ability to provide you with realistic, cost-effective and workable solutions. This also allows us to identify discrepancies at the technical, functional and usability levels, which teams with a strict IV&V or test background and a theoretical knowledge of your process or technology might miss.
IV&V Applications
WRSystems has the expertise to utilize Verification and Validation for the following types of tasks:
- Engineering Development Life Cycle IV&V and system or integration testing support
- "Best Practices" evaluation of processes related to your needs
- Contract transition validation for incumbents and incoming contractors
System Development - WRSystems works to ensure that your product, whether hardware or software application, meets not only your requirements, but your intention. For example, with Engineering Development Life Cycle (EDLC) projects, we combine the appropriate standards - IEEE 1012-2004 (Verification & Validation) as our process, and IEEE 12207-2008 (Product Life Cycle Development) for the product and the project. This includes ensuring traceability between your requirements, statement of work, and all applicable standards and regulatory requirements instituted by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), as well as the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). Safety testing, certification and evaluations will also be performed to ensure your success.
"Best Practices" - WRSystems ensures your project is following the process required of your contractor or customer. We verify that it is being executed consistently and accurately. When industry or government regulatory standards apply to the process, we validate that these are being followed. Our “hands-on†approach ensures that team members are familiar with your business and day-to-day operational processes.
Contract Transition - WRSystems provides the technical knowledge necessary to evaluate the incumbent's existing system documentation for technical accuracy. This ensures that the documentation will be sufficient for full knowledge transfer to the incoming contractor. We can also provide the same verification and validation of the technical and process deliverables for accuracy and compliance with the appropriate standards from the incoming contractor.
The Team
Each member of the IV&V management team has a minimum of 10 years of IV&V leadership experience. We actively apply industry standards for IV&V in multiple Software Development & Life Cycle (SDLC) environments. Individual team members have at least 5 years of experience in IV&V, Compliance Evaluation, and first-hand experience with the technology and/or process. Our reach-back capability offers an extensive pool of subject matter experts that are available to enhance our value to your project.
