Europort 2011
Rotterdam was buzzing this week as the global maritime community descended upon the Ahoy Conference Centre. This year's event was the first time Emsys®, WRSystems' advanced Emissions Monitoring Systems (EMS), had been on display, being part of the highly impressive booth of our Benelux partners, 'Ruysch Technical Agencies'. Their excellent industry reputation gained over many years combined with their profile of promoting 'green' products assisted Emsys® greatly with the high volume of quality enquiries received.
The Dutch maritime community is highly knowledgeable and there are many ship owners and operators with fleets of specialist vessels as opposed to simply cargo transportation. These types of vessels are ideal candidates for Emsys® due to its ability to deliver assured compliance and provide data to assist in improving vessel operational performance.
It was noticeable that there was a high level of interest in air emissions compliance strategies and abatement technologies. Given the forthcoming reductions in global and Emission Control Area (ECA) sulphur limits, the industry is vigorously planning how to comply in the most operationally efficient manner.
Emsys® has been specifically designed to provide compliance data for many differing strategies that owners will use to comply with the complex amount of local and international air emission regulations. Its Type Approval from ABS covers both NOx and SOx (Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems). It is also suitable for some of the more complex areas where analogous mixes of liquid and gaseous fuel are used, such as co-fired boiler applications. This can be extremely useful given the forthcoming reductions in the sulphurs levels, but additionally the proposed revisions of the EU sulphur directive.
Europort was extremely well attended this year, despite the worsening International financial crisis, it seems ship owners are preparing to meet these regulatory challenges head-on to ensure they have a competitive advantage in their market sector. For Emsys®, the market reaction was exceptional, and WRSystems are confident of becoming the 'go to' company for emissions compliance strategies.
Simon Brown, Director of International Marine Business was delighted with the outcome of Europort stating 'I couldn't have wished for a better show! Our colleagues at Ruysch created a magnificent stand and were pro-active in informing the market in advance of the exhibition to ensure Emsys® was on the 'Green Trail.' The quality of enquiries was fantastic, I am confident that we will secure significant contracts as a result of Europort. Ruysch also organised an afternoon of environmental seminars covering highly relevant subjects such as air emissions and ballast water treatment. It was a delight to part of this event with such a highly professional organisation.'
WRSystems will be continuing the promotion of Emsys® before the year end at both the Marintec exhibition in Shanghai, and the International Workboat Show in New Orleans, Louisiana. Our dedicated staff and local representatives will be delighted to meet with you and discuss any requirements you may have.
