Brown will expand and develop an international distributor base for current WRSystems navigation and marine IT-based products, as well as direct business development to increase the profile of the company in the global marine industry. Brown is a resident of Manchester, United Kingdom.

This newly created position forms part of WRSystems’ strategy to capitalise on their unique capabilities within the commercial maritime sector. WRSystems’ rapidly growing profile has been built on high-reliability electronics systems, including 3D Electronic Charting systems, 21st century navigation products and unique laser based emissions monitoring systems. WRSystems is rapidly growing its product and service portfolio to meet the challenging requirements of today’s marine industry.

Brown has extensive experience in the commercial maritime industry, being credited with the introduction of the first marine Type Approved Continuous Emissions Monitoring System in 2005. A renowned expert in the field of marine diesel emissions, he served as Chairman of the Group of Technical Experts, revising the NOx Technical Code at the IMO (International Maritime Organization) from 2007 until 2009 and ensuring the revised Code was delivered , on-time’ to coincide with the statutory revisions of MARPOL Annex VI. He remains active within the IMO as a key proponent of developing workable maritime regulations.

“We are delighted to welcome Mr. Brown to WRSystems,” says Dave Edwards, Senior Vice President and Director of WRSystems’ Engineering Service Division in Norfolk, Virginia. “His extensive experience and vast expertise will provide an invaluable asset to expand our position in serving the commercial maritime industry worldwide. He will spearhead our business development in the U.S., Europe and throughout the world. His knowledge and leadership will play an important addition to our expanding team of marine professionals.”

Brown is widely known on the international conference circuit, delivering training courses and white papers on the subject of marine diesel engine emissions to global marine audiences. A former seagoing engineer, he has extensive experience in project management and new product launches.

“I am truly excited about this opportunity at WRSystems,” Brown says. “They have unrivalled expertise in delivering critical, high-tech systems engineering products and services. Their combination of multiple industry expertise, technical support and worldwide service capability sets them apart in meeting the operational challenges and needs of the global shipping industry.”

Initially, Mr. Brown’s remit will be outside of the field of marine emissions, working to develop a global distribution and support network for the company’s existing navigation and marine electronics product range. Following this opening brief, on September 1st he will take over responsibility for the commercial launch of EmsysTM, the World’s first laser based marine emissions and Particulate Matter monitoring system which incorporates ‘Voyage Compliance Management’ software.
